Eight Minihaus nurseries win the EcoKids award
This year’s awards ceremony for the EcoKids scheme was held at the Salesianum Youth Centre in Munich’s Haidhausen district this week. In addition to certificates, qualifying nurseries also received the obligatory “2023” pendant for the EcoKids sign displayed outside every nursery. New this year is MINIHAUS München’s Freiham nursery, which achieved the award from a standing start with a grade of two ravens.
The topic of sustainability has been a permanent fixture on the curriculum at all MINIHAUS nurseries for many years. Our educators use brilliant environmental projects to familiarize the children with the important subject of environmental protection. In the past, these projects included one called “Hey, listen, who’s that singing?”, which involved making bird feeders from clay, looking at birds’ nests and birdwatching in the garden. Another project dealt with the subject of plastic waste and how to use resources sparingly. The children take what they have learned home with them, where they then bring it up for discussion – so our involvement with EcoKids delivers environmental education for the whole family!
MINIHAUS München has now taken part five times. The aim of the “ÖkoKids – KindertageseinRICHTUNG NACHHALTIGKEIT” [EcoKids – Nursery for Sustainability] project of the Landesbund für Vogelschutz in Bayern e.V. [Bavarian Regional Association for the Protection of Birds] is to raise the environmental awareness of even the youngest children in the crèche and nursery. (ks)
