"Flash demonstration" for children’s rights

Our Minis campaign for other children!

Today, 20 September, is International Children’s Day! This special day is aimed at drawing attention to the special rights of children and at putting children and their individual needs in the spotlight. The Minis at MINIHAUS Menzinger Straße used that opportunity and, together with their teachers, picked up the topic of children’s rights and visualised it in drawings they made, and even created a poster which was promptly used for a small demonstration in front of the MINIHAUS. But our Minis had particular fun selecting toys for children who are less well-off and who do not have as much as they do. Cuddly toys, board games and co. were boxed with great enthusiasm, to be sent to families in need as part of the ‘Bellevue di Monaco’ initiative. Many thanks to all Minis and our great team for organising this!

2019 happens to be a special year in terms of children’s rights. On 20 November the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Since its adoption in 1989 the convention has helped to improve the life of children worldwide. Their views receive more attention these days, as the ‘Fridays For Future’, among other things, show. Nevertheless the interests of children are often ignored even today.

Universal Children’s Day has existed since 1954. In that year the United Nations General Assembly advised its member states to establish a worldwide children’s day. Primary aim, then and now: Campaigning for the rights of children. International Children’s Day is now celebrated in more than 145 countries.
