Sustainably into the future – with Ökokids

MINIHAUS München has been one of the few large-scale institutions to be involved in „Ökokids – KindertageseinRICHTUNG NACHHALTIGKEIT“ ” [EcoKids Nursery for Sustainability] for five years; it is awarded the coveted seal every year. This week, the focus is on Ökokids again, with this year’s awards ceremony held at Kulturhaus Milbertshofen cultural centre. Nurseries from Munich and all over Bavaria gathered to accept their Ökokids plaque for 2025.

All eight MINIHAUS nurseries have done it again! Four nurseries won two ravens, whilst another four were even awarded three! Only nurseries which are truly committed to the Ökokids project get three ravens. In addition to many other factors, this includes involving the parents, too. While completing a project entitled “Getting to nursery with awareness and sustainability”, MINIHAUS München am Westpark discussed with the children the effects exhaust fumes have on us and on the environment - and how we can reduce or prevent them. Depending on their options, parents were motivated to travel to MINIHAUS on foot, on a bike or by public transport.

Our partner company „International Kids Campus“, a bilingual nursery in Lerchenauer Strasse, has just joined the Ökokids scheme. The team’s project “Minibeasts – on the trail of bees and insects” saw the IKC awarded not just the certificate, but also two ravens – and this from a standing start! Congratulations!

MINIHAUS München has been involved in Ökokids since 2019. The aim of the “ÖkoKids – KindertageseinRICHTUNG NACHHALTIGKEIT” [EcoKids – Nursery for Sustainability] project of the Landesbund für Vogelschutz in Bayern e.V. [Bavarian Regional Association for the Protection of Birds] is to raise the environmental awareness of even the youngest children in the crèche and nursery. (ks)
